UK pay-television broadcaster BT Sport has signed a two-year extension to its rights deal for the Bundesliga, the top division of German football.
The new contract starts in September 2015 and runs until 2017, granting BT Sport Bundesliga rights in the UK and Ireland. Under the terms of the deal, BT Sport will show around 115 live matches a season from the German top flight – about 15 more matches than the current agreement.
BT Sport already holds the current rights to show the Bundesliga exclusively live in the UK. For the remainder of the current season and the 2014-15 campaign, the channels will continue to show around 100 live matches, plus action from the DFL Supercup, the annual curtain-raiser to the domestic season, and preview and highlights shows – content that will continue under the new deal.
BT said it had secured the extension following a “competitive tender” for the new rights.
