UK pay-television broadcaster BT Sport has acquired rights to this year’s edition of the Henley Royal Regatta, with production company Sunset+Vine having also been confirmed as the host broadcaster of the British rowing showpiece for the third year in a row.
BT Sport will air live coverage of the final three days of the event, which is held on the River Thames in England, from June 30 to July 2.
BT’s coverage will begin at 1pm on June 30, and 11am on July 1 and July 2. BT Sport broadcast the event for the first time last year.
Sunset+Vine’s broadcast output will also include eight hours of live streaming every day, as well as a daily 20-minute highlights programme. This content will be distributed across the event’s YouTube and social media channels.
Andrew Preece, Sunset+Vine’s executive producer on Henley Royal Regatta, said: “Having secured a live broadcaster of BT Sport’s stature, last year, to have them back in 2017 shows it was the right decision to bring this spectacular event back to television in 2015 after a 39-year hiatus.”
A total entry of 577 crews, from 15 nations, will race at Henley Royal Regatta 2017, with at least 24 medallists from the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, including 10 gold-medal winners.
