Uruguayan state broadcaster Televisión Nacional Uruguay has acquired free-to-air rights to both Euro 2012 and this summer’s Olympic Games in sublicensing deals with the Tenfield agency.
Coverage of both tournaments will be broadcast on state channel Canal 5.
For Euro 2012, in addition to live matches, Canal 5 will show two 30-minute magazine programmes each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the tournament. The first programme was broadcast on May 22. The tournament begins on June 8.
For the Olympics, the Uruguayan television audience will be most interested in the football tournament, with Uruguay and Brazil representing the region of South America. Canal 5 will show live coverage of the Uruguay team’s games including the group matches against the United Arab Emirates, Senegal and hosts Great Britain, taking place July 26-August 1.
Tenfield will show coverage of both Euro 2012 and the Olympics on its basic-tier cable channel VTV. The agency acquired the free-to-air rights from rights-holder Grupo Albavisión.
Albavisión holds the Latin American rights to Euro 2012 as well as the free-to-air rights to the 2012 Olympics for 10 countries in Latin America, including Uruguay. Albavisión had previously sold the pay-television rights for Euro 2012 to pay-television broadcaster DirecTV.
