Pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus has agreed a one-season deal for the rights to the European Handball Federation’s men’s and women’s Champions League, including the Final Four, in Poland.
The broadcaster had previously sublicensed select EHF Champions League rights in Poland for the last four seasons, from 2015-16 to 2018-19, from sports broadcaster Eleven Sports.
Eleven acquired exclusive EHF Champions League in Poland from the MP & Silva agency, as part of a deal covering four territories. It took over rights from Canal Plus, which had held the rights in 2013-14 and 2014-15. The new deal, for the 2019-20 season, has been directly agreed with EHF Marketing, the marketing arm of the European Handball Federation, following the collapse of MP & Silva.
The deal will be the last that EHF Marketing will directly agree in Poland, as from 2020-21, the EHF’s 10-season global media and marketing rights deal with the joint venture comprised of the Infront agency and DAZN Group (then Perform) will begin.
Canal Plus owns the NC Plus platform in Poland, which local reports have said will be rebranded to Canal Plus by the end of 2019. Canal Plus is owned by the French media company Vivendi.
