German pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland’s acquisition of a significant minority stake in sports broadcaster Sport1 has been approved by the country’s federal cartel office, the Bundeskartellamt.
Sport1 operates a basic-tier channel and two pay-television channels.
“In our conclusion, we did not come up with major concerns about the merger,” Bundeskartellamt president Andreas Mundt said.
In December, Sky Deutschland announced a deal with Constantin Medien to acquire the media company’s sports production subsidiary Plazamedia and 25.1-per-cent stakes in Sport1 and the Constantin Sport Marketing division in an agreement worth a total of €57.5m ($78.2m).
