The Mediapro agency and pay-television broadcaster Prisa TV are competing to acquire the media rights of Spanish Liga club Celta Vigo for the next three seasons, in a deal which is expected to earn the newly-promoted club over €20 million ($24.5 million) per year.
Spanish newspaper Atlántico Diario reported that last season, when the Galician team was in the second-tier Liga Adelante, Mediapro paid it between €2 million and €3 million for its rights.
When Celta last competed in Spain’s top-tier league, in the 2006-07 season, the club reportedly earned between €16 million and €17 million per year.
In Spain, football clubs negotiate individual broadcasting rights contracts. Prisa already holds the rights to three other La Liga clubs for the 2012-13 season, including: Real Zaragoza, Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis. Osasuna and Espanyol are in negotiations with Prisa to sign new three-year contracts covering the period 2012-13 to 2014-15. Mediapro holds the rights to all the other clubs.
