Uefa, European football’s governing body, agreed deals in Ireland for the Champions League and Europa League for three years, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.
Public-service broadcaster RTÉ, commercial broadcaster TV3 and pay-television broadcaster Setanta Sports acquired live rights to the Champions League. TV3 also renewed its rights deal for the Europa League.
TV3 will show the first-pick Tuesday night Champions League match while RTÉ will broadcast the first-pick Wednesday night match on RTÉ Two and RTÉ HD. Setanta Sports has acquired the rights to all other Champions League matches, and will show a minimum of two live matches on the Setanta Ireland and Setanta Sports 1 channels.
In addition to its Champions League coverage, TV3 will show the first-pick Europa League match each match week, plus the final. The commercial broadcaster plans to broadcast the Europa League on its digital channel, 3e.
The rights to all other Europa League matches have not yet been awarded.
The deals were brokered by the Team Marketing agency.
