UK commercial broadcaster Channel 5 has awarded the contract to produce its forthcoming Football League highlights programme to sports production and media company Sunset+Vine.
Earlier this month, Channel 5 secured a three-year deal to show primetime highlights of English football’s Championship, League One and League Two divisions from the 2015-16 season through until 2017-18.
Under its three-year deal, Sunset+Vine will produce 46 editions of the 90-minute highlights show per season, along with three additional one-hour shows covering each round of the end of season play-offs and eight for the duration of the League Cup competition.
Match footage will be filmed, edited and supplied by the Football League’s production partner ITN Productions, which has signed on for the same three-year term as Channel 5 and Sunset+Vine.
Channel 5 said it has also hired experienced sports television executive, Mark Sharman, as a consultant to oversee production of the new highlights show on its behalf. Sharman is a former director of sport at UK commercial broadcasters Channel 4 and ITV, as well as having previously worked as deputy managing director of pay-television broadcaster Sky Sports and director of broadcasting at Sky Networks.
