Spanish commercial broadcaster La Sexta drew its largest audience in its five-year history for the Real Madrid v Barcelona Spanish Liga football game last Saturday evening. La Sexta had an average of 9.6 million viewers and a 49-per-cent audience share.
The match, which Barcelona won 3-1, attracted an average audience of 12.1 million viewers and a 61.5-per-cent audience share across the five channels on which it was shown, according to data from media analysis company Kantar Sport.
Regional public-service broadcasters IB3, Telemadrid, TPA and TV3 showed the match alongside La Sexta. TV3, which broadcasts in Barcelona’s home market of Catalunya, attracted 1.4 million viewers and a 45.2-per-cent local audience share. An average of 783,000 viewers watched the action on Telemadrid, the local broadcaster in Madrid, to generate a 29.7% share in its region.
The overall figures across all channels peaked at 13.2 million viewers and a 66.4-per-cent audience share. Kantar Media also said 70.3 per cent of the television audience was male.
