Media company Constantin Medien has said it will bid for a package of broadcast rights in the next tender for German top-tier football league the Bundesliga.
Constantin supervisory board member and shareholder Dieter Hahn told German newspaper Handelsblatt that the company would seek a package that would allow it to provide live broadcasts and highlights coverage via its pay-television channel Sport 1 Plus.
Pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland currently holds the live cable, satellite and internet television rights to the Bundesliga in a four-year deal from 2013-14 to 2016-17.
Hahn said Constantin would not seek to directly compete against Sky in the next auction and is instead seeking to provide a selection of games rather than full coverage.
“Currently a customer has to either do without live broadcast of Bundesliga matches or pay for the whole package at Sky,” Hahn added.
