Lenny Daniels has been named president of the Turner Sports division of US cable-television broadcaster Turner Broadcasting System.
Daniels previously served as executive-vice president and chief operating officer for Turner Sports, a role he assumed in 2009. He will report to TBS president David Levy in his new position.
In his newly expanded role, which is effective immediately, Daniels will oversee all aspects of Turner Sports’ day-to-day management including production, programming, scheduling, league relations, business development, advertising sales, marketing, digital, talent, events and operations.
Since 2009, Daniels has worked closely with Levy on leading overall strategy for the division, including acquisitions, programming and expansion of the company’s sports media rights.
He was an integral part of Turner’s negotiations with Major League Baseball, which resulted in Turner and the Fox network agreeing new eight-year rights deals, from 2014 to 2021, with the league in October 2012.
He also played a key role in Turner’s talks in 2010 with the National Collegiate Athletic Association to secure a 14-year agreement for the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
“Lenny is an outstanding executive and has played a key role in growing our portfolio of premium sports content,” Levy said.
“Lenny has a keen understanding of how consumers and advertisers are interacting with our brands and content across multiple platforms. In his newly expanded role, he will also help further develop Turner's data infrastructure and business capabilities to grow revenue and consumer insights across all of the brands within our portfolio.”
