DAZN, the OTT subscription streaming service, has added to its tennis rights portfolio in Brazil by agreeing to cover the start of the women’s national team’s campaign in the revamped Fed Cup.
DAZN has acquired exclusive rights to Brazil’s home tie against Germany on February 7-8 in the Fed Cup Qualifiers.
DAZN’s acquisition of Fed Cup rights comes with the platform already the home of Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) events. In November, DAZN acquired rights in Brazil to the men’s Davis Cup tournament. DAZN, which launched in Brazil in May 2019, also holds rights in the country to Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) events.
The Qualifiers are part of an overhaul of the Fed Cup which saw the International Tennis Federation award hosting rights for the next three editions of the finals to Budapest back in June. Sixteen teams will compete in the Qualifiers phase, with Brazil’s opponent one of the four winners from the 2019 World Group Play-offs.
The eight winners from the Qualifiers will join Australia, France, Hungary and Czech Republic at the Fed Cup Finals which will take place in Budapest on April 14-19.
The bottom eight nations will play the new Play-offs, which will rank the eight nations that were promoted from the Regional Group I from Americas, Europe/Africa and Asia/Oceania, to see who plays in the 2021 Qualifiers and who will be in Group I in 2021.
