DAZN, the OTT service operated by digital sports media company Perform, has acquired exclusive rights in Canada for football’s Uefa Champions League and Europa League.
The three-year deal will run from 2018-19 to 2020-21.
During the 2018-19 campaign, DAZN will stream live coverage of all 138 Champions League matches and all 205 Europa League matches, as well as the Super Cup early-season curtain-raiser.
Subscribers will be able to watch in real time and on-demand.
DAZN offers monthly and annual subscriptions, with one month free. Subscriptions are available at C$20 (€13/$15) per month or C$150 per year.
The news is likely to represent a setback to telco Bell, which was regarded as the favourite when Uefa’s partner agency, Team Marketing, launched the sales process back in October. Bell, which operates pay-television broadcasters RDS and TSN, has invested heavily in football rights since being dislodged as the NHL ice hockey league’s rights partner by rival Rogers from the 2014-15 season.
In the three-year cycle that will conclude with tomorrow’s Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Kiev, Bell has shared rights to the Champions League and Europa League with pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports.
