Subscription OTT operator DAZN has picked up pay-TV rights in Italy to the European Volleyball Confederation’s (CEV) men’s and women’s European Championships.
The agreement covers the 2019 and 2021 editions and has been signed ahead of the start of the women’s tournament on Friday.
DAZN said that it will show the best games from both the men’s and women’s tournaments, including the matches of the Italian national team.
Italy’s women’s team are among the favourites to lift the title and will begin their campaign against Portugal in Friday. The women’s European Championships are being staged in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey and free-to-air coverage will be offered in Italy by public broadcaster Rai.
The men’s European Championships will be staged from September 12-19 in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Slovenia. Italy’s men’s team will also play their first match against Portugal.
Worldwide media rights to the men’s and women’s tournaments are sold by the Infront agency.
DAZN already holds rights in Italy to the men’s and women’s CEV Volleyball Champions League.
The OTT service launched in Italy ahead of the 2018-19 Serie A and Serie B seasons after picking up broadcast rights to Italian football’s top two divisions. A DAZN subscription in Italy is priced at €9.99 ($11.02) per month.
