As reported in TV Sports Markets last month, pay-television operator DirecTV has acquired rights to Uefa European Qualifiers and the Uefa Nations League in a four-season deal, from 2018-19 to 2021-22.
DirecTV will hold rights in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Pay-television operator Sky México will hold rights across Central America, including Mexico. It is unclear whether rights have been sold in Paraguay and Bolivia. Rights in Brazil were sold separately in a deal with pay-television broadcaster Esporte Interativo.
While the Nations League is a new competition for 2018-19, DirecTV and Sky were the incumbent broadcasters of European Qualifiers in the previous cycle, from 2014-15 to 2017-18. The Nations League begins tonight (Thursday, September 6).
