DirecTV extends NBA rights in Latin America, League Pass revamped for global market

Pan-regional pay-television broadcaster DirecTV has extended its NBA rights deal in Latin America, while the North American basketball league has confirmed changes to its League Pass online streaming service for the international market.

Terms of DirecTV’s extension were not disclosed, but it will broadcast 120 games on an exclusive basis during the 2016-17 season, which commenced yesterday (Tuesday). Regular season coverage will comprise 96 games, including up to five games per week.

Live streaming of games will also be offered via DirecTVSports.com and the DirecTVSports app.

Meanwhile, League Pass International, the NBA’s live games subscription service, is offering a new way to watch basketball on mobile devices and tablets throughout the 2016-17 season with the introduction of NBA Mobile View.

The new NBA Mobile View offering provides a zoomed-in, tighter shot of the action that is optimised for the smaller screen size of mobile devices.

When fans select any game through League Pass International, Mobile View will appear as an additional viewing option. The new service was created by installing new cameras in all 29 NBA arenas with each game having a designated producer specifically for Mobile View.

League Pass International also tips off the 2016-17 NBA season with a new offering designed for basketball fans outside of the United States.  Throughout the season, fans will have the option to select NBA Game Choice, a new monthly subscription, which enables fans to select any two live games per week.

The live games subscription service will continue to offer its traditional full season package providing access to over 1,000 live games.

League Pass International also returns with NBA Team Choice, available for all 30 teams, which gives fans the option to follow one team and watch their favourite player.
