Pan-regional pay-television broadcaster DirecTV has secured a rights deal covering Latin America for the 2014 winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia and the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
DirecTV agreed the deal with Mexican telecommunications company América Móvil following months of negotiations.
DirecTV will broadcast the Olympics in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The deal covers television, online and mobile platforms.
In recent days, América Móvil, which is owned by Mexican multi-billionaire Carlos Slim, has also agreed pan-regional rights deals for the Games with pay-television broadcasters ESPN and Fox Sports in Latin America.
