The International Rowing Federation (Fisa) has extended its rights partnership with the European Broadcasting Union consortium of public-service broadcasters.
The new four-year deal will run from 2017 to 2020 and will cover the World Rowing Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019, as well as the annual World Rowing Cup series and the European Rowing Championships.
The EBU will continue to distribute the European rights to Fisa-organised events. The two parties’ previous deal was due to expire at the end of the year.
Fisa president Jean-Christophe Rolland said: “We have all seen and experienced the fast-moving developments that are influencing the televising and distribution of sports events and I remain confident that, by staying with public-service broadcasters, our sport is in excellent and professional hands.
“The coverage and promotion of rowing has continued to build through the EBU membership and its various platforms.”
The first event to be covered by the new agreement will be the opening regatta of the 2017 World Cup series from May 5-7 in Belgrade, Serbia.
