International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports is poised to enter another market with deals lined up in Portugal for rights to club football competitions the Uefa Champions League and Spanish LaLiga.
TV Sports Markets understands an official announcement on the deals is due in the coming weeks. The rights to the Champions League and LaLiga would be for three seasons, from 2018-19 to 2020-21.
Eleven currently has no presence in Portugal and the agreements would follow its recent entry into the UK and Irish sports-rights markets. Earlier this month, Eleven ousted pay-television broadcaster Sky as the rights-holder to LaLiga in the UK and Ireland.
Eleven, which currently operates in Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan and the US, agreed a three-season deal with LaLiga running from 2018-19 to 2020-21. It is unclear whether Eleven plans to launch a channel in the UK and Ireland, or exploit the rights on an OTT basis.
