EPL rights set to boost Now TV revenue

Hong Kong pay-television service Now TV expects further revenue growth in the second half of 2013 after its owner, telecommunications company PCCW, regained rights to English Premier League football, according to Hong Kong English language newspaper The Standard.

In the first half of the year, PCCW recorded a rise in average revenue per user of Now TV to HK$174 (US$22.43/Eur17.19) – an increase from the $172 posted in the same period last year.

George Chan Ching-cheong, PCCW’s group managing director, said: “We expect the growth will accelerate in the second half.”

PCCW also posted a 2.4 percent rise in net profit to HK$856m in the first half of the year, in addition to a 14 percent increase in revenue to HK$11.1bn.
