US sports broadcaster ESPN has agreed a 12-year deal for US and international rights to the Orange Bowl US college American football game with the Atlantic Coast Conference, running from 2015 to 2026.
The ESPN website reports the broadcaster will pay an average of $55 million (€43.3 million) per season.
The rights cover television, radio, internet and mobile. Matches will also be available via Microsoft Xbox games consoles. ESPN also has the rights to show 3D coverage of matches. Additionally, the broadcaster will show the match outside the US on its ESPN International channel.
Each year, the game will be played on either December 31 or January 1. It features the conference champion from the ACC against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference, Big Ten Conference or the Notre Dame college.
“A game pitting the ACC champion against the SEC, Big Ten or Notre Dame ensures a great match up for sports fans,” ESPN president John Skipper said. “The Orange Bowl has a great history and we are very proud to be part of extending that into the next decade.”
