Pan-European sports broadcaster Eurosport has acquired media rights and become the host broadcaster for the annual tennis tournament operated by the ATP World Tour, the men’s professional tour, in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Under the terms of the three-year deal, from 2013 to 2015, Eurosport will provide live coverage of the tournament on its main Eurosport and Eurosport 2 channels across 59 European countries. Digital rights are included in the agreement.
As part of the deal that was struck directly with the tournament’s organisers, Eurosport has been appointed as the host broadcaster for the first time for an event on the ATP World Tour.
The clay court tournament, which has secured a spot on the ATP World Tour’s third-tier 250 series from next year, takes place a week before the French Open grand slam is staged in Paris – a tournament that is also broadcast live by Eurosport.
The Düsseldorf tournament is currently called the ATP Power Horse Cup.
“We are delighted to become the European media partner of the Power Horse Cup, especially at such an important moment in the life of the tournament,” Eurosport’s deputy managing director in charge of acquisitions, Géraldine Filiol, said. “We will help the new ATP 250 tournament develop by providing extensive coverage to all fans in Europe on our channels Eurosport and Eurosport 2 as well as on internet and mobile through the Eurosport Player.”
