Eurosport grants greater exposure for basketball’s Eurocup

Pan-regional broadcaster Eurosport has stepped up its commitment to club basketball competition the Eurocup, the second-tier tournament operated by Euroleague Basketball.

Starting with Round Four of the regular season this week and continuing with Round Five the following week, Eurocup games will also be shown on the main Eurosport channel, along with Eurosport 2, the competition’s television home since its first season in 2005.

The initiative marks the first time that Eurocup games will be broadcast live on Eurosport’s main channel, with Euroleague Basketball stating the move reflects the “continued growth and future potential of the competition”, which unites 36 teams from 14 countries.

Eurocup games will return to their usual spot on Eurosport 2 for Round Six of the regular season. Euroleague Basketball added that Eurosport will look for similar opportunities to show Eurocup games on its main channel during the rest of the season.

Eurosport’s first Eurocup broadcast saw three-time competition champion Valencia Basket defeat Umana Reyer Venice 88-59 on Tuesday evening.
