Fifa, the global governing body of football, has opened an invitation to tender in Spain for the media rights to the 2017 Confederations Cup, the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Women’s World Cup national team tournaments.
The rights will cover television, internet, mobile and radio transmissions.
Bidders may also indicate an interest in the media rights for the 2022 World Cup and/or other Fifa events taking place during the 2017-2022 cycle, and submit independent unconditional offers for such rights.
Fifa said that the tender process will allow it to select the media companies that are best placed to “operationally secure the required transmission commitments” and enable the body to achieve its objectives of reaching the widest possible audience while providing a high-quality viewing experience for fans.
Following a question-and-answer period from today (Friday) to April 28, submissions to Fifa must be received by May 2, with negotiations with shortlisted bidders to commence the following day.
