Fox adds to motorsport portfolio with United SportsCar rights

The International Motor Sports Association has agreed a five-year multimedia rights deal with the Fox Sports division of US network Fox for coverage of the United SportsCar Racing series until 2018.

The deal, which also includes IMSA’s Sports Car Challenge series from 2014 for a five-year period, further bolsters Fox’s motorsport offering following last week’s news that it will broadcast the Nascar Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series races through 2024.

Financial terms were not disclosed and, with United SportsCar Racing’s schedule for 2014 still to be finalised, exact distribution plans are yet to be determined but fans can expect to see races across Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 – Fox’s new national pay-television channels that will launch on August 17.

Additionally, Fox has the rights to stream all IMSA races through its Fox Go platform. IMSA retains additional digital rights including alternate camera angles and full race replays.

United SportsCar Racing was the product of a merger between the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and the American Le Man Series in September 2012, sanctioned by IMSA, and its next major event is a 24-hour race at Daytona International Speedway in January 2014.
