Pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports has acquired rights to motor racing series the World Endurance Championship in the US and Canada.
Under the terms of the deal, Fox will broadcast all rounds of the WEC live in 2015 on its satellite, cable and online platforms, with the broadcaster also showing a 52 minute highlights show after each event.
The WEC’s showpiece event, the 24 Heures du Mans, will be covered live in its entirety across a combination of television channels Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2, along with digital platform Fox Sports Go.
Fox has committed to over 70 hours of live WEC race coverage across Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2, in addition to every race being available live on Fox Sports Go.
“This is a significant agreement for the brand awareness of the World Endurance Championship in North America, which is very important market for our partners and manufacturers,” WEC chief executive Gérard Neveu said.
The WEC’s US round, the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas, will be held in Austin on September 19. The series already boasts a healthy US contingent through the Extreme Speed Motorsports team and drivers Patrick Dempsey, Scott Speed, Ed Brown and Patrick Long.
