The Fox Sports division of US network Fox has signed a rights extension with boxing promotional company Golden Boy in a deal that will lead to the creation of a new Monday night boxing slot on its soon-to-be-launched national pay-television channel Fox Sports 1.
The exact length of the multi-year rights deal has not been disclosed.
Under the agreement, Fox Sports will retain exclusive live US rights to 48 separate two-hour Golden Boy events per year. Fox Sports 1 will show 24 live events per year, with Spanish-language sports broadcaster Fox Deportes showing all 48 events live – an increase from 36 in the previous deal.
As part of the deal, Fox International Channels has acquired exclusive live rights to all 48 fights in Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Europe, excluding the UK.
The 24 events on Fox Sports 1 will all take place in the US, and most are expected to run on Monday nights once the channel launches on August 17. Fox Deportes will simulcast those bouts and will also show the 24 other events, which will be staged in Mexico.
Once events are shown on Fox Sports 1, each fight will be available for Fox Sports’ regional channels in the US.
All events will also be available for streaming through the Fox Sports Go service.
