Pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports has acquired rights in Latin America for the 2014 winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia and the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The rights were acquired by the Fox International Channels Latin America broadcast subsidiary of US media company 21st Century Fox from América Móvil, the Mexican telecommunications company owned by multi-billionaire Carlos Slim.
FIC Latin America said that the deal covers all Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America.
Last March, América Móvil acquired rights for the next two editions of the Games in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. In November, América Móvil agreed to sell on rights for the 2014 Games to Mexican state-owned broadcaster Canal 22 and 26 regional television channels in the country.
