NBC Sports Group, a division of US media company NBCUniversal, has acquired broadcast rights for the Global Rallycross motor racing series under a multi-year deal effective from its 2014 season.
Nine Global Rallycross meetings will be broadcast live and via tape delay on the NBC network, with repeats showing on pay-television broadcaster NBC Sports Network.
Global Rallycross chief executive Colin Dyne said: “Partnering with NBC will allow us to bring our events to millions of our existing fans, and welcome new fans as well.”
NBC’s 2014 schedule for the championship, which is title-sponsored by energy drinks brand Red Bull, begins at the Top Gear Festival Barbados on May 24 with a tape-delay broadcast and ends similarly in Las Vegas on November 16.
The second Global Rallycross race of the season will be shown by sports broadcaster ESPN as it is part of its X Games Austin event in Texas. Previously, Global Rallycross had greater integration with the X Games action sports franchise but its remaining nine races this season are stand-alone events following ESPN’s cancellation of its international X Games dates.
