The Union Européenne de Gymnastique, the European governing body for gymnastics, has agreed a four-year global media rights and services partnership with the European Broadcasting Union consortium of free-to-air broadcasters.
The new contract takes the two parties’ relationship past the 25-year mark and covers 10 championships between 2013 and 2016, including all men's and women's European artistic and rhythmic championships. In addition, the union will distribute rights for the European championships in trampoline, aerobic and acrobatic gymnastics on behalf of the governing body.
The announcement marks a u-turn from the European gymnastics union. In March, the body announced that the IEC in Sports agency would replace the EBU as its exclusive distributor of worldwide media rights from 2013 to 2016.
“The EBU's professional expertise, its satellite and fibre network, and the potential for development were key elements in our decision,” UEG president, Georges Guelzec, said. “European Gymnastics in all its forms can count on a partnership anchored in durability and excellence.”
