SNTV, the joint venture sports video news agency, has named James Dobbs as its new managing director.
Dobbs will take up his post at SNTV, a joint venture between IMG and the Associated Press, on October 1 and replaces Martin Kay at the helm.
Dobbs has transferred from his position as vice-president, rights and sales at IMG Replay, the archive business of IMG, where he worked with rights-holders and headed up the relationship with the International Olympic Committee. He also helped IMG to win the International Paralympic Committee archive business contract.
At IMG, he set up the rights and clearance service, where IMG acts as a clearing agent for third-party rights.
SNTV said today (Thursday): “In his role, James will oversee the strategic development and growth of the world’s leading sports news video agency whilst identifying and exploiting new opportunities across the media landscape. He will also aim to raise the profile of the business and to form partnerships with rights-holders and content creators to provide SNTV customers with the widest selection of premium sports content.”
Dobbs joined IMG Media in 2011 from his role as a sponsorship executive at Getty Images.
Kay became SNTV’s managing director in 2010 but stood down earlier this year. He joined SNTV from his London-based vice-president of development and distribution position at CNBC.
