Indian Super League set for broad exposure

The organisers of the new Indian Super League have said that the inaugural edition of the domestic club football tournament will be available in about 85 per cent of India’s television households.

Live coverage of the tournament will be shown on eight television channels in five languages as well as on the StarSports.com website.

The coverage will be shown on pay-television broadcaster Star India’s sports, movie and regional channels, including Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 2 HD in English; Star Sports 3, Star Gold and Star Utsav in Hindi; Asianet Movies in Malayalam); Jalsha Movies in Bengali and Suvarna Plus in Kannada.

“We believe in the potential of football as a sport that cuts across culture, race, religion and economic might,” Star India chief operating officer Sanjay Gupta said. “In order to take the game of football closer to its fans, we are providing a never-seen before plan, leveraging the strength of sports, entertainment, regional and multi-screen. The magnitude of what we are setting out to do has never been attempted.”

The league will begin on October 12 and will feature eight clubs. The tournament will conclude on December 20.
