Infront Sports & Media and Italy’s Lega Serie A have formalised their agreement confirming the agency as the league’s exclusive adviser for the national and international media rights to all its properties, including the top division of Italian football, with packages for a domestic rights tender set to be defined in the “forthcoming days”.
The contract secures Infront’s role until the end of the 2017-18 season, with the possibility of extending the agreement for a further three-year cycle until 2020-21. Overall, it will guarantee the league minimum revenues of €5.94bn ($8.26bn) for the next six seasons.
The final long-form agreement is the result of months of negotiations between Infront and Lega Serie A. Work will now continue to define media packages for the rights to Serie A, along with the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana cup competitions for the 2015-16 to 2017-18 seasons.
Commenting on the Infront partnership, Lega Serie A president Maurizio Beretta said: “The new agreement confirms that Italian football is of great value – recognised nationally and internationally – and, thanks to the new technologies, we will work on diffusing it globally, with a particular attention to new generations.”
Marco Bogarelli, president of Infront Italy, added: “Through our discussions with Lega Serie A we intensively analysed the market dynamics and movements, also considering the overall economic that forms the basis for our advisory role. We are very confident that we will reach the targets set and continue to raise the bar as we have previously demonstrated and are known to do.”
