The International Shooting Sport Federation has said its 2014 World Championship and World Cup events reached 240 million television viewers in more than 100 countries.
The figures were released in the governing body’s 2014 Season Media Report, which will be presented to the ISSF General Assembly in Munich, Germany on December 2-3.
While ISSF described the figures as "fantastic", its report into television distribution in 2013 was estimated at around 300 million viewers.
In 2014, more than 100 hours of television footage were produced by ISSF TV and broadcast all over the world, including 30 hours of live transmission of the ISSF World Championship, held in Granada, Spain, distributed in collaboration with sports and news content distributor Eurovision.
Ten television broadcasters used the ISSF TV feed live, via satellite, while more than 60 television networks recorded satellite feeds for delayed playback or downloaded footage from the Eurovision WorldLink video on demand service.
Videoclips of action and interviews from ISSF World Cup and World Championship events were watched 2.8 million times on video-sharing platform YouTube.
ISSF secretary general Franz Schreiber said: “The media coverage of the 2014 ISSF season has been fantastic. Numbers tell us that we're on the right path.
“The communication strategy approved by the ISSF president Olegario Vàzquez Raña tuned out to be successful and effective: indeed we are not spending money, we are investing on the future of our sport, and results are paying off.”
