iStream secures online rights to Indian cricket series

Indian online video service iStream.com acquired the exclusive live streaming and video-on-demand rights for India’s cricket tour to Sri Lanka, which commences on Saturday, July 21.

The IndianTelevision.com website reports that iStream sublicensed the rights from the Sporty Solutionz agency, which secured internet and mobile rights to the series from pay-television broadcaster Ten Sports. The tour comprises five one day internationals and one Twenty20 game and marks India’s first international action for four months.

iStream will stream all six games live on its website, with the matches also being available on demand for a month after the tournament concludes on August 7.

iStream founder and chief executive, Radhakrishnan Ramachandran, said: “After a relatively long lay-off, Indian cricket fans will be delighted to see their heroes back in action. We saw tremendous response to Uefa Euro 2012, which we streamed exclusively in India. This series will further strengthen our sports vertical on iStream.com. We plan to bring in more such exclusive partnerships in the online video space.”
