ITV to stop broadcasting for an hour in support of Olympic initiative

UK commercial broadcaster ITV will switch off each of its seven channels for an hour next week as part of the I Am Team GB initiative, which encourages the British public to celebrate the country’s Olympians through a series of free sports events.

At 9.30am on August 27, each of ITV’s channels will display a message saying, “We’ve gone running – why don’t you join us?”

It will mark the first time in over 30 years that ITV has stopped broadcasting.

I Am Team GB is a joint venture between ITV and the UK National Lottery and is being organised in partnership with the British Olympic Association and the UK Sport governing body.

Throughout the day, a host of sports events and activities will be held across the country to celebrate Team GB’s achievements at the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
