Lagardère Sports, the sports marketing division of conglomerate Lagardère, has been named the host broadcaster of the Dubai Marathon under a three-year deal.
The agreement covers the races running from 2016 to 2018. Lagardère Sports will be responsible for providing radio frequency transmission facilities, technical management, outside broadcast vehicles, cameras and a television crew for the marathon.
Lagardère Sports’ service will complement the existing media and production services that are being provided for the event. The company will also generate graphics systems to be used for television broadcasts, highlights packages and social media content.
Lagardère Sports is already distributing the international media rights for the race, which holds gold label status on the International Association of Athletics Federations’ calendar.
“Dubai and the UAE are showing a growing appetite for enhancing the broadcast values of their events as the Emirates prepares for hosting (national team football tournament) the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and Expo 2020,” Peter Angell, senior vice-president of media and production at Lagardère Sports, said.
“We are delighted to give the Dubai Marathon this visibility as one of the world’s top races that it deserves.”
The Dubai Marathon has taken place annually since its inception in 2000. Berhanu Lemi (pictured) and Aselefech Mergia of Ethiopia won this year’s men’s and women’s races. The 2016 edition takes place on January 22.
