LaLiga, the organising body of Spanish club football, has said games from the country’s top two leagues will be broadcast in over 170 countries this season.
The 2016-17 season for both the top-tier LaLiga and second-tier Segunda Division commenced on Friday, with LaLiga stating it is intent on continuing its international growth this term.
To this end, the organisation said it will be leveraging its offices in the United States, Dubai, South Africa, China and Nigeria to drive this development.
LaLiga said the global audience for the top two tiers of the Spanish game in 2015-16 stood at 2.1bn, with 1.163bn people tuning in from Europe and a further 424m from Africa and the Middle East. The leagues were said to have reached 692m domestic viewers in Spain.
