Lega Serie A has launched a new online streaming service to show coverage of the top division of Italian football.
Fans in Italy will be able to watch live coverage of up to three matches per round via the Serie A TV service.
The service will be available for free until the end of September. From the start of October, it will cost €2 ($2.24) per match, or €3.99 ($4.57) for all three matches.
Serie A TV will also feature second-screen statistics and preview and review shows.
League president Maurizio Beretta said that the application would attract “youngsters who love watching football and interacting with new technologies at the same time.”
Empoli v Udinese on Saturday will be the first match to be streamed before Chievo Verona v Inter Milan and Genoa v Juventus on Sunday.
The new platform will exploit the rights that were left unsold in the domestic rights tender spanning the 2015-16 to 2017-18 seasons.
Package E comprised OTT, internet and mobile rights for three matches per weekend, with Lega Serie A and Infront, the league’s adviser for media rights sales, seeking €109m ($120.1m) per year for the rights.
TV Sports Markets first reported that Infront and the Lega were planning to launch a mobile service on July 24.
