Spanish Liga football club Real Mallorca has signed a new rights deal with pay-television operator Prisa for three years, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.
The deal is worth a total of €64 million ($79.3 million), according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
Mallorca struck the deal with Prisa after cancelling a contract with the Mediapro agency that was due to run until the end of the 2013-14 season.
Mallorca was able to curtail the Mediapro deal due to competition law, introduced in Spain in 2010, that prevents rights-holders from owning a team’s broadcasting rights for more than three years.
Mallorca is the ninth club from La Liga to take advantage of the legislation and cancel a contract with Mediapro in order to agree a more lucrative rights deal. The other clubs to have done this are: Athletic Bilbao, Atlético Madrid, Celta Vigo, Getafe, Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Real Zaragoza and Espanyol.
