Spanish agency Mediapro is considering withdrawing its interests in domestic football coverage due to escalating rights fees, according to daily financial newspaper El Español.
The newspaper said that Jaume Roures, the head of Mediapro, was looking to focus the company’s efforts on production.
The report added that Mediapro is considering stepping aside when the auction is launched for the next cycle of rights to LaLiga, which operates the top two football divisions in Spain.
Roures would, however, seek to continue Mediapro’s production relationship with LaLiga, covering the league’s channel and some live matches.
Earlier this year, LaLiga president Javier Tebas said that the body would convert its LaLigaTV service into an OTT platform in August.
Tebas also said earlier this year that a domestic sales process for the rights from the 2019-20 season would be launched this month “at the latest”.
