Spanish agency Mediapro has signed a two-year extension to its Formula One media rights deal, covering the 2014 and 2015 seasons of the motor-racing championship.
Mediapro’s current five-year rights deal was due to expire at the end of the 2013 season.
Commercial broadcaster Antena 3, which currently shows F1 in Spain, is expected to agree a new deal with Mediapro for the rights covering the next two campaigns, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
Jaume Roures, the director of Mediapro, said that F1 remains a valuable property notwithstanding the presence of Ferrari driver and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
He told the Frecuencia Digital website: “Formula One has a very important grounding, Fernando Alonso or not, but logically the audience with Alonso rises. F1 speaks for itself and is a great show.”
