Spanish commercial broadcaster Mediaset has acquired domestic rights for one live free-to-air match per week from the Spanish Liga, the top division of football in the country, according to Spanish newspaper Diario AS.
Mediaset will show live coverage of a Liga game at 10pm local time every Monday, starting with the Real Betis v Getafe match on April 1 on its commercial channel Cuatro. Games will also be shown on Mediaset-owned commercial channel Telecinco.
The length of the deal with the Mediapro agency has not been revealed and the report said that minor details still need to be finalised before an official announcement. However, the agreement is expected to run until at least the end of the 2013-14 season.
Until the end of March, the rights will continue to be exploited by Marca TV, the digital-terrestrial sports channel that is co-owned by Mediapro and Italian media group RCS.
