Movistar Plus, the pay-television platform of Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica, has agreed a multi-season extension to its rights deal for North American basketball league the NBA.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it continues a relationship that has been in place for 22 years and comes ahead of the start of the 2017-18 NBA season, which tips off tomorrow (Tuesday).
A new part of the extended agreement will see Movistar Plus broadcast the game of the week on Sunday mornings in Spain.
The NBA is part of a strong basketball portfolio on Movistar Plus, which also holds rights to domestic league the Liga ACB and continental competitions operated by Euroleague Basketball.
Spanish stars competing in the NBA include: Pau Gasol (San Antonio Spurs), Marc Gasol (Memphis Grizzlies), Serge Ibaka (Toronto Raptors), Ricky Rubio (Utah Jazz), Juancho Hernangomez (pictured, Denver Nuggets), Willy Hernangomez (New York Knicks), Alex Abrines (Oklahoma City Thunder), Nikola Mirotic (Chicago Bulls) and José Manuel Calderón (Cleveland Cavaliers).
