Italian Serie A football club Napoli has failed in an attempt to secure an injunction against the implementation of a model used to split media rights income between clubs in the country’s top flight.
Napoli opposed the model – which allocates 25 per cent of media revenue on the basis of the size of a club’s supporter base – after questioning the results of a survey conducted by the Doxa, Full-Six Crespi, and Sport+Markt research companies.
The results of the research found that Juventus was the best-supported team followed by Internazionale, AC Milan and then Napoli, which was left with a share of about 10 per cent of the overall support. However, the results did not include match crowd figures, and Napoli has the third highest average attendance in Serie A this season, behind only Internazionale and AC Milan.
Napoli’s bid for an injunction was opposed by rival Serie A clubs Lazio, Parma, Catania, Chievo and Genoa – clubs that attract significantly smaller attendances than Napoli.
