The NBA North American basketball league yesterday (Sunday) streamed a regular-season game via Facebook for the first time, with the game between the Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors available exclusively to users of the social media platform in India.
The game was played at the Kings’ Golden 1 Center arena and marked the team’s fourth annual Bollywood Night, a celebration of traditional Indian culture, cinema and music. The Warriors won the game 117-106.
The fixture was available to fans in India via the official Facebook pages of the NBA, the Kings and the Warriors. The stream featured the league’s newly-released NBA Mobile View feed, which is designed to deliver an optimised viewing experience for smart phones and tablet devices.
As well as the game itself, the stream featured in-arena entertainment and games, performances from the Kings’ dancers and special guests, and Bollywood-style introductions and graphics on Golden 1 Center’s 4K ultra-high-definition video board.
The Kings are owned by Indian-born technology entrepreneur Vivek Ranadivé, who purchased the franchise in 2013.
