The NBC Sports Network US cable-television channel has struck a deal with the Main Events boxing promoter to show between six and 16 live Saturday night ‘Fight Night’ programmes during the 2013-14 season.
The agreement expands on an initial agreement, covering 2012-13, to show a maximum of six Fight Night broadcasts.
Under the new deal, up to two Fight Night programmes will be shown on the main NBC free-to-air channel in 2013-14. An additional Fight Night has also been added to the 2012-13 schedule and will be shown on the free-to-air channel on December 22 this year.
The Fight Night series brings together fighters represented by different promoters. “The multiple promoter format worked incredibly well during season one and we are hoping to continue to build on the momentum,” Main Events president Kathy Duva said.
Jon Miller, president of programming at NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network, added: “Fight Night has been a tremendous success. The unique approach to have multiple promoters competing to put fights on the NBC Sports Network has allowed us to produce compelling match-ups and incredibly exciting shows. The NBC Sports Group is committed to the property and we are looking forward to expanding the series from six telecasts to up to 16.”
