US regional cable-television broadcaster NESN has linked up with mobile video technology company Burst to introduce fan-generated mobile video content into its live coverage of Boston Red Sox MLB baseball games.
NESN is the local rights-holder for the Red Sox and will utilise the Burst platform to showcase fan videos during live game broadcasts within minutes of their submission.
By leveraging the Burst platform, NESN can manage and showcase videos from Red Sox fans watching the games live at Fenway Park, in communal settings at bars and restaurants, at home or on college campuses, or while travelling anywhere in the world.
The two parties said the partnership provides an opportunity for up to one million potential viewers to share content for public broadcast. To submit videos, fans can visit NESN.com/OnTV or text the keyword ONTV using their mobile phones.
“Mobile presents a huge opportunity for us to engage with fans and provide an interactive experience for our audience,” Joseph Maar, NESN’s vice-president of programming and production, executive producer, said. “By leveraging Burst, we can showcase an unlimited range of unique replay angles shot by fans at the game or include reactions from fans watching elsewhere.”
