NFL set for extensive free-to-air coverage in Germany

The NFL American football league is set to receive unprecedented free-to-air coverage in Germany under an agreement with commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but from the 2015-16 season ProSiebenSat.1’s channels are set to broadcast 43 regular season games.

The ProSieben Maxx channel will broadcast two live games per week, starting from September 13, and will share rights to the playoffs with sister channel Sat.1.

The Pro Bowl, the NFL’s annual all-star game, will be broadcast in Germany for the first time by ProSieben Maxx, while Sat.1 will televise the Super Bowl championship game.

Germany is one of the NFL’s key overseas markets and coverage of the league has so far been offered predominantly through Sport1 US, the pay-television channel of commercial sports broadcaster Sport1.
