Norway became the latest Scandinavian country to be afforded free live streaming of the top divisions of Spanish and Italian football, LaLiga and Serie A, over the weekend.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet struck a deal to show coverage of the weekend’s matches from Serie A and LaLiga, while football-dedicated publication Tipsbladet also acquired rights in Denmark.
On Friday, it was also confirmed that a host of platforms in Norway would offer free live streaming of the two leagues through deals with the MP & Silva agency and online streaming service EverSport.
Norwegian business newspaper Dagens Næringsliv said the online platforms of football magazine Josimar, along with Sporten.com and the Norwegian supporter groups of Real Madrid and Inter Milan would show games, while the VG newspaper later confirmed it would live stream all 20 matches.
The deals were sealed after the first two rounds of the seasons in Spain and Italy were not available on Swedish, Danish and Norwegian television.
“If a television deal does not come into place, we will continue to show LaLiga and Serie A in Scandinavia,” Frank Todaro, a digital producer for EverSport, told Dagens Næringsliv on Friday. “A price plan is not in place yet, but I suppose we will have a plan for either weekly or season passes. Nothing has been decided yet, but we will know more in about one week.”
